High Force, Teesdale

Above Middleton in Teesdale, the River Tees comes over an outcrop of Whin Sill, an igneous intrusion of basalt creating this magnificant waterfall.

Following heavy rain in October and November, High Force was particularly spectacular with the second waterfall much bigger than usual.

Whin Sill is a volcanic intrusion which occurs all over Northumbria.
